In our everyday religious discourse, the material world is often brought in opposition to the spiritual world, the life of this world (dunya) in opposition to the life hereafter (aakhirah), the body in opposition to the soul, and matter in opposition to spirit. These distinctions are essential to establish a distinct religious-intellectual identity in the 21st century. At the end of the day, however, these divisions have obscured our vision that Allah is the Creator, Lord, and the Sustainer of all universes. As such, the material earthly realm is as dignified and deserves and demands as much reverence and attention of the believers as the spiritual heavenly realm.

This is the first course offered by Al-Asmaa Institute. Our goal is to find the Beautiful Names of Allah in Nature by seeing it through the lens of the fascinating world of classical Arabic. In this course, we will study fourteen Beautiful Names that are mentioned in the last rukuʿ of Surat al-Hashr.

After this course, I expect the participants to have caught profound glimpses of concrete instances of the God-Universe-Culture relationship in Nature. Secondly, it should also awaken the curiosity within them as to the general methodology, framework, and most importantly, the mindset underpinning these lessons. If it doesn’t, well then, the lessons they learn in this course will probably prove to be of very limited benefit.

Integrity Policy

Integrity is the foundation of trust and respect in all activities. What we emphasize the most in this policy is confidentiality. Our courses are and will continue to be fruits of an arduous labor—and for them to be made freely accessible to the public without the instructor’s express permission will be considered a lack of respect for his efforts and a breach of his trust.

The other two important factors in the integrity policy are asking good questions combined with honest feedback. While money is our short-term capital, these students are our medium and long-term capital. By way of analogy, they are both the compass and the anchor that help us navigate through the uncharted seas of the future in a way that maximizes the benefit we offer to them and the benefit they gain from us as Allah permits.

The course focuses on exploring Allah’s Beauty and Majesty not in isolation from but in relation to Nature through His Beautiful Names mentioned in Surat al-Hashr.

The demonstration course gives the participants a taste of how we will study all fourteen Names in this course. Depending on whether one likes the taste, they enroll in the orientation course which lays out the essential preconditions for taking maximum benefit from this course.

Participants are required to pass the "God with Many Names" course to qualify for this course.

You will gain an understanding of the meanings of the Beautiful Names that is both broad and deep. It is broad in that it shows how each Name is a conduit to a unique instance of God-Universe-Individual relationship. It is deep in that it requires to dig deeper into the intellectual repositories of Islam.

The course is structured to facilitate students and working-class individuals. In exchange for a mere three-hours commitment on a Sunday, supported with asynchronous week-long discussions, they will get to see the richness and the potential fruitfulness of this approach to the Beautiful Names.
